we cannot
summon
the patience
for winter’s
chill
one
more
day
Just when we believe
we cannot
rally
the courage
to see beyond
crowded, graying, skies
one
more
day
Just when we believe
we cannot
pull up the boots
tie the scarf
and layer ourselves
into mummy suits
one
more
day
Just when we believe
the rising snow drifts
are no longer
welcome days for
huddling down
and cuddling up
one
more
day
Just when we believe
we cannot
gather the strength to
stoke the fire
fan the flames
carry the ashes
one
more
day
Just t h e n
we catch a glimpse
of short emerald spears
tiny violet clusters
and S T O P
dead in our tracks
on
this
day
Like the mothers’ memory
of labors’ toil
and the waves reaching
oceans’ shore
winters weight
quickly fades
on
this
day
Just one glimpse
of the color of Spring
opens us too
mirroring crocus’ petals
to the perfect
miraculous rhythm
of
every
day
In one delightful
unexpected
moment
we are renewed
and reminded
of promises fulfilled
one
day
